Terms of service

Last updated 24 October 2026

These terms apply when you use Kerf at https://kerfcutlist.com (“Kerf”, “the service”), provided by Code Garden (Pty) Ltd (“we”, “us”). By using Kerf you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.

1. Who we are

BusinessCode Garden (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa, which develops and runs Kerf
Registration number2022/871360/07
AddressCape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

2. The service

Kerf is an online cut list optimiser. You enter parts and boards; it suggests cutting layouts, cut sequences, edging totals, cutting lists and cost estimates. You can use it without an account, in which case your work is stored only in your browser.

Check before you cut. Layouts, measurements, quantities and costs are calculated from what you enter and the settings you choose. They are suggestions to help you plan, not a guarantee. You are responsible for checking sizes, grain, blade width and safety before cutting or ordering material. We are not responsible for material wasted because of an error in what was entered or in a suggested layout.

3. Accounts

  • You need an account to sync projects between devices or to buy Pro. Give a real email address and keep your password to yourself.
  • You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
  • If you are under 18, use Kerf with the permission of a parent or guardian.
  • You can delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

4. Plans

Free includes the optimiser, cutting mode, edging totals and a PDF preview, and up to 3 synced projects. Pro is a paid subscription that adds the features listed on the pricing page. We may change what each plan includes; if we take away a Pro feature you have paid for, we will tell you and you may cancel and ask for a refund of the unused part of your current period.

5. Payments

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: Paddle sells Pro to you, takes the payment, works out and collects any sales tax or VAT, and handles billing enquiries and refunds. Paddle’s buyer terms apply to your purchase as well as these terms.

  • Pro is billed monthly or yearly, in advance, and renews automatically until you cancel.
  • You pay the price shown at checkout for your country, in your currency where available, including tax.
  • Cancel any time from your account. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for; it then doesn’t renew.
  • If a renewal payment fails, we and Paddle will try again for a while. If it keeps failing, your plan ends and you move to Free.
  • We may change Pro’s price. A new price applies from your next renewal after we have told you about it, and you can cancel before then.
  • Refunds are covered by our refund policy.

6. Your content

Your projects (parts, boards, prices, notes) are yours. You give us permission to store, process and display them only to run the service for you, for example to sync them and to make your PDFs. We don’t sell your content or use it to advertise to you. How we handle personal information is set out in our privacy policy.

Keep your own copy of anything important: use Export in the app to download your projects. We take care with backups, but we can’t promise data will never be lost.

7. Acceptable use

Don’t misuse the service. In particular, don’t:

  • try to get into accounts, systems or data that aren’t yours, or test our security without permission;
  • overload the service, scrape it, or use automated tools in ways that hurt other users;
  • copy, resell or reverse-engineer the service, or use it to build a competing product;
  • use it for anything unlawful.

8. Our intellectual property

Kerf, its software, design, guides and name belong to Code Garden (Pty) Ltd. These terms give you the right to use the service, not to own any part of it. Cut lists, PDFs and supplier lists you make with Kerf are yours to use for your projects and to send to suppliers.

9. Availability and changes

We work to keep Kerf running, but it may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We may improve, change or stop parts of the service. If we close Kerf, we will give Pro members notice and refund any unused paid period.

10. Liability

Kerf is provided “as is”. As far as the law allows, we don’t give warranties beyond those in these terms, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profit or wasted material. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other law that cannot be excluded.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change matters for paying members, we will email you before it applies. Using Kerf after a change means you accept the new terms.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. If you have a complaint, contact us first at hello@kerfcutlist.com and we will try to sort it out. Otherwise, South African courts have jurisdiction.
